For more than 20 years, we have been conducting research and seeking to develop products that contribute more to the environment. In 2001, we filed the patent for our first product of the ECO line. In 2011, we presented at FIMEC the first "Green Footwear", produced with all components made from renewable and/or recyclable sources, among them solid recycled PET (polyethylene terephthalate) waste from the recycled bottle industry. Since 2016, we have used in our industrial plants energy generated from clean, fully renewable and environmentally friendly sources (wind, solar, biomass, SHP and CGH), as per Ludfor Energia's Renewable Energy Certification. By 2021, we will have achieved an average of 597,898 tCO2e in emission reductions at our industrial plants. This number is equivalent to 16,521 tree seedlings conserved for 20 years.
Since then, we have developed the ECO line, which includes TPU with up to 10% of raw materials from renewable sources that do not come from the petrochemical chain, and TPE and TR, with up to 50% of MPs from renewable sources.Considering our installed production capacity, these products represent a potential to avoid the use of more than 100 tons of raw materials from fossil sources. In 2022, we created the TR Green 99, a thermoplastic elastomer, unprecedented in the Brazilian and footwear market, consisting of more than 99% of raw materials from renewable sources. Free of fossil carbon and composed of raw materials with ISCC PLUS - International Sustainability Carbon Certification, TR Green 99 is a product with positive impact, that is, a product whose consumption promotes the reduction of environmental impacts and/or the generation of socio-environmental benefits.
TR Green 99 is a thermoplastic elastomer of circular economy, 100% recyclable, which allows the reuse of the injected component in numerous cycles. Thus, it is possible to incorporate up to30% of the recycled material in a new injection process, reducing losses and reducing waste disposal. This flexibility in absorbing recycled material allows our customers to develop projects containing the incorporation of parts of the footwear discarded after use.
The incorporation of vegetable sources in a polymeric matrix usually lowers its mechanical properties, due to the reduction of intermolecular interactions. But our knowledge about the molecular structure of TR, acquired in years of technological development and learning, allowed us to incorporate raw material of vegetable origin to TR, without compromising its mechanical performance, maintaining product quality and durability, thus meeting the principles of green chemistry.
